TAP WATER CONFIRMED SAFE TO DRINK
Customers of Las Virgenes Municipal Water District were notified on January 17, 2025 of a potential problem with the drinking water in the affected area (see map below).
Due to the Palisades Fire, over 100 structures within Las Virgenes Municipal Water District’s (LVMWD’s) service area were destroyed. These conditions may have caused harmful contaminants, including benzene and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs), to enter the water system. Preliminary water quality tests that were initially conducted right after the fire event indicated that the water was safe to drink. However, out of an abundance of caution and by the order of the State Water Resources Control Board, Division of Drinking Water and Los Angeles County Public Health Department, LVMWD advised residents of the affected area TO NOT USE THE TAP WATER FOR DRINKING AND COOKING UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE after additional sampling and testing could be conducted.
We are pleased to report that the safety of the drinking water has been confirmed and it is no longer necessary to avoid drinking the water. VOCs, including benzene, and bacteriological contaminants were NOT detected in the water. The State Water Resources Control Board Division of Drinking Water (SWRCB DDW) has authorized the removal of the Do Not Drink Advisory, effective Thursday, January 30, 2025. The tap water is safe to drink. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
As always, you may contact a customer service representative at 818-251-2100 if you have any questions or concerns.
Please share this information with other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (ex., people in apartments, any tenants, nursing homes, schools, and businesses, etc.).
