Efficient Indoor Water Use

Reducing your indoor water use can be achieved through a combination of installing high-efficiency devices and some simple changes in behavior.
Check out some of the ways you can save water indoors:

- Install high-efficiency toilets, washing machines, faucets and shower heads. Get rebate information.
- Check for leaks. The average household's leaks can account for more than 10,000 gallons of water wasted every year!
- Repair dripping faucets.
- Turn on your washing machine and dishwasher for full loads only. Doing so saves up to 1,000 gallons of water per month!
- Filling your bathtub halfway saves up to 30 gallons of water.
- Limit showers to 5 minutes or less.
- Turn off the faucet when brushing your teeth or washing your face.
- Keep a pitcher of water in the refrigerator instead of running the tap.
- When washing dishes by hand, fill a bucket or one side of the sink with soapy water. After the dishes have been scrubbed clean, rinse them under light-running water from the faucet.
- Defrost food in the refrigerator and not under running water.
- Use excess or leftover ice cubes to water houseplants.
