Irrigation Retrofit

LVMWD is proud to announce the relaunch of the Irrigation Efficiency Retrofit Program (IERP), now featuring additional benefits.
Please note: Those who were placed on the waitlist during the pilot program will have priority for installation appointments. New IERP customers, please read the instructions below to apply!
Why should customers take advantage of the survey and irrigation retrofit program?
Do your sprinklers spray onto the sidewalk? Does excess water flow off of your landscape? Are you unsure how much to water or when? LVMWD can help!
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that inefficient irrigation systems are responsible for up to 25,000 gallons of water wasted annually per household. The Irrigation Efficiency Retrofit Program is designed to help customers claim that water back with modern and efficient irrigation system upgrades to keep the water where it is supposed to be, on your landscape.
LVMWD is offering our customers a unique opportunity to have a certified irrigation professional examine and retrofit their existing irrigation system to maximize efficiency.
What the program entails:
- Professional installations may include:
- High-efficiency sprinkler nozzles
- Conversion from spray to drip irrigation
- Capping of unnecessary sprinkler heads
- Weather-based irrigation controller(s)
- Irrigation controller programming/re-programming of retrofitted zones
- What is NOT included:
- Installation of new irrigation systems (existing system retrofit only)
- Digging, trenching, or reconfiguring of underground pipes
- Retrofit of mixed stations/zones (i.e., combination of different irrigation equipment types or combination of plant material with different water requirements)
- Retrofit of irrigation systems with issues such as a broken line, a broken sprinkler, leaking or malfunctioning valves, or electrical issues at the controller (customers will be given thirty [30] days to make necessary repairs to remain eligible)
The first step is to schedule and complete a FREE Water Efficient Home Survey, provided by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) and conducted by WaterWise Consulting, Inc. This survey is completed in-person with the customer and provides an excellent opportunity to learn the "ins and outs" of your indoor and outdoor home water use from a certified professional. Customers may choose to perform the outdoor survey only for the purpose of qualifying for the IERP. After the survey is completed, participants will receive a written report that includes data collected during the survey, an analysis of the irrigation system, and recommendations to improve home water use efficiency.

Important Info:
- Once you’ve submitted your application, a WaterWise representative will contact you to schedule your survey.
- During the survey, a WaterWise professional will determine if the customer qualifies for the Irrigation Retrofit Program.
- Once the survey report is completed and the customer qualifies for the Program, WaterWise will contact the customer to schedule the Irrigation Retrofit installation.
If the customer does not qualify, the customer will be notified, and reasons why will be noted in the survey report.
Per survey findings - installations may include high-efficiency sprinkler nozzles, drip irrigation, weather-based irrigation controllers (up to two per customer account), and capping of unnecessary sprinkler heads. On the day of installation, the installer will walk the customer through the items to be retrofitted and begin work (installations usually take 2-4 hours to complete). Once the installation is complete, the installer will program/reprogram the irrigation controller(s) for retrofitted zones.
All installations will be performed by qualified and trained employees. All installations will be done by manufactures’ specifications and all warranty documentation and user manuals will be left with the customer for any controllers installed. The customer will be given any devices (e.g., sprinklers/nozzles/controllers) that are removed during the installation.
What products will be used?

If there is a problem(s) identified (e.g., breakages that require fixing before installation) on the installation date, the customer will be given thirty (30) days to make any necessary repairs and contact WaterWise to reschedule their retrofit installation.
A 30-day warranty on services will be provided. Please contact WaterWise for any labor related issues.
Funding is limited and available on a first come first served basis. Limit one (1) retrofit per qualified customer.
The Irrigation Efficiency Retrofit Program is available for both residential and commercial customers.
