At its Sept. 2 meeting, the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District Board of Directors received updates on several key initiatives. Vice President Jay Lewitt reported on ongoing efforts in Sacramento to advance the Delta Conveyance Project. Staff also provided legislative updates, including news that Senate Bill 394, a bill sponsored by LVMWD and the Association of California Water Agencies to deter water theft through stronger fines, has passed the Legislature and now awaits the governor’s signature.
Other topics included current water supply conditions, pending state legislation on wildfire preparedness and clean water standards, and the importance of securing Proposition 4 funding for recycled water projects. The board also approved reclassifying three positions to strengthen succession planning and renewed the district’s contract with WaterSmart, which has already helped customers save an estimated 247 million gallons of water.
General Manager David Pedersen noted that the Westlake Filtration Plant is currently in operation to manage summer demand and prepare the district’s reservoir for integration with the future Pure Water Project.
The next LVMWD board meeting is scheduled for Sept. 16, 2025.
